Providing some goodies for children

There are many things you can do to ensure that when visiting your caravan, the children are kept happy and entertained. Doing this not only keeps the children happy, but helps the parents relax and feel at home. By keeping everyone happy you will do all that you can to make sure they go home with a good memory of their holiday and those all important word of mouth recommendations should flow.

The first thing to remember when catering for children is to cover all age groups. Your holiday makers could have children of all ages from babies through to teens, so it's important to keep all age groups in mind when planning your facilities / welcome pack.

Babies & Toddlers

It's pretty difficult to provide for babies as no parent is going to want to use communal dummies or teething toys, but you can probably provide some kind of baby toy and you could also include some baby food in the welcome pack if you know that they have a baby with them. Apart from board games I would also recommend keeping some outdoor activities like Swingball, perhaps a cricket or baseball set, that kind of thing. The parents will appreciate the chance for the kids to burn off some energy with all that activity while they can sit and enjoy a glass of wine. For those rainy days don't forget those console games and DVD's, something like High School Musical is probably more appropriate for this age group, but remember to cater for girls and boys.

In terms of the welcome pack, perhaps some crisps and fizzy drinks, or if your more health conscious maybe some fruit and juices or you can mix it up of course. Just remember to keep that welcome pack inviting but also cost effective.

Teens and above

A difficult age group to cater for as they can have very different tastes and activities and well we all know that teenagers can be complicated. I think the family board games are still a good option here as well as perhaps a little more advanced console games. Although I would recommend steering clear of anything with mature content, including excessive violence. Grand Theft Auto isn't an appropriate choice here I would suggest. If parents choose to allow children to bring these types of games with them, then that is their own choice of course. Which brings another point, remember to advise the parents beforehand what kind of console you have so that they can decide what games / movies they want to bring themselves.

As far as the welcome pack goes, I would stick to the same formula suggested with pre-teens. Snack foods and drinks, a little healthy mixed in with more confectionary items.

Before they arrive, find out from the holiday makers, how many and what age children they have so that you can prepare to cater for the right groups. He was quick to note however, that although occupation rates had been strengthened through local support the business, though welcome wouldn't necessarily translate into higher profits for Algarve villa or hotel owners, since they had been forced to lower prices.
